Giuseppe De Luca
He made his debut in 1897 (Piacenza, the part of Valentine in Faust). He sang on the leading stages of the world. Participated in the world premiere of a number of outstanding operas, including Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur (1902, Milan, part of Michonne), Madame Butterfly (1904, Milan, part of Sharpless). In 1915-46 he performed at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Figaro). Here he also sang at the world premieres of Granados’ Goyeschi (1916) and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi (1918, title role). He also performed at Covent Garden (1907, 1910, 1935). Other roles include Rigoletto, Iago, Ford in Falstaff, Gerard in Giordano’s Andre Chenier, Scarpia, Alberich in Das Rheingold, Eugene Onegin, The Demon and others.
De Luca left a notable mark on opera. His career has been very long.
