Georgi Nelepp
People’s Artist of the USSR (1951), three times winner of the Stalin Prize (1942, 1949, 1950). In 1930 he graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory (class of I. S. Tomars). In 1929-1944 he was a soloist with the Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theatre, and in 1944-57 with the Bolshoi Theater of the USSR.
Nelepp is one of the largest Soviet opera singers, an actor of great stage culture. He had a sonorous, soft voice, rich in timbre colors. The images he created were distinguished by the depth of thought, rigor and nobility of artistic forms.
