Cellist Gauthier Capuçon is one of the brightest musicians of his generation, whose representatives depart from the usual model of the existence of a virtuoso soloist, paying attention primarily to chamber music.

The musician was born in Chambéry in 1981 and started learning to play the cello at the age of 5. Later he studied with Annie Cochet-Zakine at the Paris Conservatory and with Philippe Muller at the Higher National Conservatory of Music, where he won prizes in cello and chamber ensemble classes. He took part in the master classes of Heinrich Schiff in Vienna. As a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Mahler Youth Orchestra (1997 and 1998), Capuçon honed his skills under the guidance of the outstanding conductors Bernard Haitink, Kent Nagano, Pierre Boulez, Daniele Gatti, Seiji Ozawa, Claudio Abbado.

In 1999 he was awarded the 2001st Prize of the Ravel Academy of Music in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the 2004nd Prize of the International Cello Competition in Christchurch (New Zealand), the XNUMXst Prize of the André Navarra Cello Competition in Toulouse. In XNUMX, he won the French Victoires de la Musique (“Musical Victories”) award in the “Discovery of the Year” nomination.
