Fyodor Stravinsky
In 1869 he graduated from the Nezhinsky Law Lyceum, in 1873 from the St. Petersburg Conservatory, class of C. Everardi. In 1873-76 he sang on the Kyiv stage, from 1876 until the end of his life – at the Mariinsky Theater. Stravinsky’s activity is a bright page in the history of Russian performing arts. The singer struggled with the operatic routine, paid great attention to the dramatic side of the performance (facial expressions, gestures, stage behavior, make-up, costume). He created various characters: Eremka, Holofernes (“Enemy Force”, “Judith” by Serov), Melnik (“Mermaid” by Dargomyzhsky), Farlaf (“Ruslan and Lyudmila” by Glinka), Head (“May Night” by Rimsky-Korsakov), Mamyrov ( “The Enchantress” by Tchaikovsky), Mephistopheles (“Faust” by Gounod and “Mephistopheles” by Boito) and others. He skillfully played characteristic episodic roles. He performed in concerts. Stravinsky is one of the most prominent predecessors of Chaliapin, the father of the composer I. Stravinsky.
