French composer. Outstanding violinist, cellist, double bassist of the concert orchestra in Lyon.

Granier had an uncommon compositional talent. His music is distinguished by melodic expressiveness and a harmonious combination of images, a variety of themes.

As J.-J. Noverre, who set several ballets to Granier’s music, “his music imitates the sounds of nature, devoid of the monotony of tunes, prompts the director a thousand thoughts and a thousand small touches … In addition, the composer coordinated the music with the actions, each passage was expressive, communicated strength and energy to dance movements and animate the pictures.”

Granier is the author of the ballets staged by Noverre in Lyon: “Impromptu of the Senses” (1758), “Jealousy, or Festivities in the Seraglio” (1758), “The Caprices of Galatea” (until 1759), “Cupid the Corsair, or Sailing to the Island of Cythera” (1759), “The Toilet of Venus, or the Leprosy of Cupid” (1759), “The Jealous Man without a Rival” (1759).
