Ekaterina Siurina was born in 1975 in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) into an artistic family (father is an artist, mother is a theater director). There she graduated from the conductor-choir department of the Musical College. P.I. Tchaikovsky, then – the Russian Academy of Theater Arts in Moscow (professors A. Titel and E. Sargsyan). While still a student at the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS), she was admitted to the Moscow Municipal Theater Novaya Opera, where she made her brilliant debut in 1999 as Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto, in an ensemble with the famous baritone Dmitry Hvorostovsky. Becoming a soloist of the Novaya Opera Theater, she sang a number of main roles on its stage, including Mary Stuart in Donizetti’s opera of the same name and The Snow Maiden in Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera of the same name.

Ekaterina Siurina is the winner of the Competition for Young Opera Singers. Rimsky-Korsakov and the Elena Obraztsova International Chamber Singers Competition (both in St. Petersburg). Since 2003, the singer has regularly performed on the best stages in the world. Notable achievements include Juliet in Bellini’s Capuleti e Montecchi at the Montpellier Opera and the Royal Opera of Wallonia in Brussels; Elvira in Bellini’s The Puritans at the Monte Carlo Opera; Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore at the State Opera Houses of Berlin and Hamburg; Gilda at London’s Covent Garden, the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and Opera Bordeaux; Servilia in Mozart’s Tito’s Mercy at the Paris National Opera on the historic stage of the Palais Garnier (the performance is recorded on DVD). She also sang the role of Gilda in a production at the Savonlinna Opera Festival (Finland).

Ekaterina Siurina made her Italian debut as Suzanne in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at La Scala Theater in Milan. The next performance in Italy was L’elisir d’amore with the troupe of the Paris Opera Bastille. The play “Idomeneo” by Mozart with her participation in the role of Elijah was recorded on DVD on the “label” Decca in 2006 at the Salzburg Festival, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth. In October 2006, the singer made her debut at the New York Metropolitan Opera as Gilda, and in November 2007 she sang the part of Suzanne there. Her partners were Juan Pons and Bryn Terfel. Ekaterina Siurina also performs on the concert stage and collaborates with many of today’s outstanding conductors, including Yuri Temirkanov, Sir Roger Norrington, Philip Jordan, Richard Boning and Daniel Harding. She has performed the soprano role in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London and with the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Temirkanov, as well as in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor with the Orchester de Paris.

The artist’s recent engagements have included L’elisir d’amore at Salerno Municipal Theater conducted by Daniel Oren, at the Glyndebourne Festival and at the Houston Grand Opera, and as Layla in Bizet’s The Pearl Seekers at the San Diego Opera; Amina in Bellini’s La Sonnambula at the Michigan Opera House; Gilda, Suzanne and Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at the Paris National Opera (Opera Bastille); Zerlins in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the 2008 Salzburg Festival; Suzanne in Le nozze di Figaro with the Budapest Festival Orchestra on tour in Las Palmas. In December 2010, Ekaterina Siurina, together with her husband, tenor Charles Castronovo (USA), toured Russia as part of the Dmitry Hvorostovsky and His Friends project. Concerts were held from 10 to 19 December in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tyumen and Yekaterinburg. In the plans of Ekaterina Siurina – Juliet in Capuleti and Montecchi at the Paris Opera Bastille and at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich; Gilda, Lauretta and Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at London’s Covent Garden; Amin at the Vienna State Opera. In the 2012/2013 season, the singer is expected to make her debut in the role of Ann Truelove in The Rake’s Progress on the Bastille Opera stage. Ekaterina Siurina’s upcoming performances include a gala concert in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and concerts in Moscow.
