David Toradze
He received his musical education at the Tbilisi Conservatory; for two years he studied at the Moscow Conservatory with R. Gliere.
The list of Toradze’s works includes the operas The Call of the Mountains (1947) and The Bride of the North (1958), a symphony, the Roqua overture, a Cantata about Lenin, a piano concerto; music for the performances “Spring in Saken”, “Legend of Love”, “One Night Comedy”. He created the ballets La Gorda (1950) and For Peace (1953).
In the ballet La Gorda, the composer often refers to the melodies of folk dances and songs; The “Dance of the Three Girls” is built on the basis of the folk dance “Khorumi”, the intonations of the song “Mzeshina, yes mze gareta” develop in Irema’s Adagio, and the theme of the courageous dance “Kalau” sounds in the dance of Gorda and Mamiya.
