Skipping chords

What features greatly expand the “range” of chords?

In addition to altering and adding chord steps, it is also allowed to skip some steps. This technique is used when it is necessary to use a chord with fewer notes than actually contained in the chord.

It is allowed to skip stage I (tonic), stage V (fifth). If the XI step is added to the composition of the chord, then the omission of the IX step is allowed. If the XIII step is added to the composition of the chord, then the omission of the IX and XI steps is allowed.

It is forbidden to skip the III stage (third) and VII (septim). This is due to the fact that it is these steps that determine the type of chord (major / minor, etc.)
