Debut 1983 (Basel, part of Alcina in Haydn’s Roland Paladin). At Covent Garden since 1985 (debut as Cherubino). In 1987 she performed the role of Ismene in Gluck’s Alceste at La Scala (1st edition). Since 1988 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Cherubino). She sang at the Aix-en-Provence Festival (1984, as Ramiro in Mozart’s The Imaginary Gardener), at the Salzburg Festival (1989, as Marguerite in Berlioz’s Damnation of Faust). In 1990 she sang the title role in Rossini’s Tancred in Geneva, and in 1992 at Covent Garden she sang the role of Romeo in Bellini’s Capulets e Montecchi.

Otter’s repertoire includes mainly works by Viennese classics, baroque operas, and German composers. He also performs in concerts, where he performs chamber works.

Recordings include Dorabella in So Do Everyone (dir. Marriner, Philips), Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel (dir. D. Tate, EMI), Olga in Eugene Onegin (dir. Levine, DG) .
