Born in 1946 in a creative family. His father, Vladimir Tchaikovsky, is a pianist by education, for many years he was the director of the Musical Theater. K.S. Stanislavsky and Vl.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, uncle – outstanding composer Boris Tchaikovsky.

A. Tchaikovsky graduated from the Central Music School in piano with Professor G.G. Neuhaus, and then the Moscow Conservatory in two specialties: as a pianist (class of L.N. Naumov) and composer (class of T.N. Khrennikov, with whom he continued his postgraduate studies).

In 1985-1990 he was the secretary of the Union of Composers of the USSR for work with creative youth. Since 1977 he has been teaching at the Moscow Conservatory, since 1994 he has been a professor.

In 1993-2002 he was an adviser to the Mariinsky Theatre.

In 2005-2008 he was the rector of the St. Petersburg Conservatory.

A. Tchaikovsky – winner of the 1988st prize at the International Composers Competition “Hollybush Festival” (USA). He took part in international music festivals in Schleswig-Holstein (Germany), “Prague Spring”, in the Yuri Bashmet Festival in London, in the International Arts Festival “Stars of the White Nights” (St. Petersburg), in the festival named after. HELL. Sakharov in Nizhny Novgorod, at the International Festival “Kyiv-Fest”. In 1995 he was the main composer of the festival in Bad Kissingen (Germany), in XNUMX – the festival “Nova Scotia” (Canada). The works of A. Tchaikovsky are heard in the largest concert halls in Russia, Europe, America, Japan. Laureate of the newspaper “Musical Review” in the nomination “Composer of the Year”.

The list of works by A. Tchaikovsky is diverse. The composer in his work covers almost all major genres of academic music: nine operas, including the opera One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, presented in 2009 as part of the Golden Mask National Theater Award festival; 3 ballets, 2 oratorios (“Towards the Sun”, “On behalf of the globe”), 4 symphonies, symphonic poem “Nocturnes of Northern Palmyra”, Concerto for orchestra “CSKA – Spartak”, 12 instrumental concertos (for piano, viola, cello, bassoon and symphony orchestra and other instruments), choral and vocal works and chamber-instrumental compositions. A. Tchaikovsky is actively working in the genres of “light music”. He created the musical “Sinner”, the operetta “Provincial”, music for films, television films, documentaries and cartoons.

The music of A. Tchaikovsky is performed by such outstanding musicians as M. Pletnev, V. Fedoseev, V. Gergiev, M. Jansons, H. Wolf, S. Sondeckis, A. Dmitriev, Yu. Bashmet, V. Tretyakov, D. Geringas, B. Pergamenschikov, M. Gantvarg, E. Bronfman, A. Slobodyanik, Vermeer Quartet, Terem Quartet, Fontenay Trio. Collaborated with the composer: the Mariinsky Theatre, the Moscow Chamber Musical Theater conducted by B. Pokrovsky, the Moscow Operetta Theater, the Children’s Musical Theater. N.I. Sats, Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, Opera and Ballet Theater in Bratislava, St. Petersburg Theater of Musical Comedy.

A. Tchaikovsky devoted almost 30 years to pedagogical activity. The composer’s graduates work in many cities of Russia, in Italy, Austria, England, the USA, among them are laureates of the competition “International Composer’s Tribune of UNESCO”, the International Competition. P. Jurgenson, international composer competitions in Holland and Germany.

A. Tchaikovsky is active in public activities. In 2002, he became the initiator and artistic director of the Youth Academies of Russia music festival. The main goal of the festival is to promote young composers and performers, the action received the support of the President of the Russian Federation. The composer is a member and chairman of the jury of numerous Russian and international competitions, a member of the Council of the Russia-Japan Cultural Forum, a member of the Public Board of Directors of Channel I (ORT).
