Vadim Repin was born in Novosibirsk in 1971, began playing the violin at the age of five and six months later performed on stage for the first time. His mentor was the famous teacher Zakhar Bron. At the age of 11, Vadim won the Gold Medal at the International Venyavsky Competition and made his debut with solo concerts in Moscow and Leningrad. At 14, he performed in Tokyo, Munich, Berlin and Helsinki; a year later, he made his successful debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall. In 1989, Vadim Repin became the youngest winner of the International Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels in its entire history (and 20 years later he became chairman of the competition jury).

Vadim Repin gives solo and chamber concerts in the most prestigious halls, his partners are Marta Argerich, Cecilia Bartoli, Yuri Bashmet, Mikhail Pletnev, Nikolai Lugansky, Evgeny Kissin, Misha Maisky, Boris Berezovsky, Lang Lang, Itamar Golan. Among the orchestras with which the musician collaborated are the ensembles of the Bavarian Radio and the Bavarian State Opera, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Berlin, London, Vienna, Munich, Rotterdam, Israel, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Hong Kong, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the London Symphony Orchestras, Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Montreal, Cleveland, Milan’s La Scala Theater Orchestra, Orchestra of Paris, Honored Collective of Russia Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, Grand Symphony Orchestra. Vadim Repin actively promotes contemporary music. He performed premieres of violin concertos by J. Adams, S. Gubaidulina, J. Macmillan, L. Auerbach, B. Yusupov.

Permanent participant of the VVS Proms festivals, Schleswig-Holstein, in Salzburg, Tanglewood, Ravinia, Gstaad, Rheingau, Verbier, Dubrovnik, Menton, Cortona, Paganini in Genoa, Moscow Easter, “Stars of the White Nights” in St. Petersburg, and since 2014 year – Trans-Siberian Art Festival.

Since 2006, the violinist has an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. The discography includes more than 30 CDs, marked by a number of prestigious international awards: Echo Award, Diapason d’Or, Prix Caecilia, Edison Award. In 2010, a CD of sonatas for violin and piano by Frank, Grieg and Janáček, recorded by Vadim Repin together with Nikolai Lugansky, was awarded the BBC Music Magazine Award in the Chamber Music category. The Carte Blanche program, performed at the Louvre in Paris with the participation of the gypsy violinist R. Lakatos, was awarded the prize for the best live recording of chamber music.

Vadim Repin – Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters of France, the Order of the Legion of Honor, winner of the most prestigious French national award in the field of classical music Les Victoires de la musique classique. In 2010, the documentary “Vadim Repin – the Wizard of Sound” was filmed (co-produced by the German-French TV channel Arte and Bavarian TV).

In June 2015, the musician took part in the work of the jury of the violin competition of the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition. P. I. Tchaikovsky.

Since 2014, Vadim Repin has been holding the Trans-Siberian Art Festival in Novosibirsk, which in four years has become one of the most significant international forums in Russia, and since 2016 has significantly expanded its geography – a number of concert programs have been held in other Russian cities (Moscow, St. Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Samara), as well as Israel and Japan. The festival covers classical music, ballet, documentaries, crossover, visual arts and various educational projects for children and youth. In February 2017, the Board of Trustees of the Trans-Siberian Art Festival was created.
