Turntable |
Turntable – mechanical-acoustic apparatus for playing gramophone records, a portable portable type of gramophone with a hidden horn. The first P. were produced by the French. firm “Pate” (their name combines the name of this company and the Greek word ponn – sound), however, they differed somewhat in their design from the devices widely known under this name (they were adapted not only for playback, but also for recording sound; recording and playback were carried out not from the edge of the plate to the center, but from the center to the edge, etc.). After the appearance of long-playing gramophone records, they gradually fell into disuse, giving way to the electrophone (electric player), and the radiogram.
