Sergei Stadler is a famous violinist, conductor, People’s Artist of Russia.
Sergei Stadler was born on May 20, 1962 in Leningrad into a family of musicians. From the age of 5 he began to play the piano with his mother, pianist Margarita Pankova, and then on the violin with his father, a musician of the Honored Collective of Russia of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Valentin Stadler. He graduated from a special music school at the Leningrad Conservatory. N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, Leningrad Conservatory. N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, then postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory. P.I. Tchaikovsky. Over the years, S. Stadler’s teachers were such outstanding musicians as L. B. Kogan, V. V. Tretyakov, D. F. Oistrakh, B. A. Sergeev, M. I. Vayman, B. L. Gutnikov.
The musician is a laureate of the international competitions “Concertino-Prague” (1976, First Prize), them. M. Long and J. Thibaut in Paris (1979, Second Grand Prix and Special Prize for the best performance of French music), im. Jean Sibelius in Helsinki (1980, Second Prize and Special Prize of the Public), and to them. P.I. Tchaikovsky in Moscow (1982, First Prize and Gold Medal).
Sergei Stadler is actively touring. He collaborates with such famous pianists as E. Kissin, V. Zawallish, M. Pletnev, P. Donohoe, B. Douglas, M. Dalberto, J. Thibode, G. Opitz, F. Gottlieb and others. He performs a lot with his sister, pianist Yulia Stadler. The violinist plays in ensembles with A. Rudin, V. Tretyakov, A. Knyazev, Y. Bashmet, B. Pergamenshchikov, Y. Rakhlin, T. Merk, D. Sitkovetsky, L. Kavakos, N. Znaider. Sergey Stadler performs with the best orchestras in the world – the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia, the Russian National Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater, the Bolshoi Theater, the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra. P.I. Tchaikovsky, the London Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, the Orchestra de Paris, the Gewandhaus Leipzig and many others under the baton of outstanding conductors – G. Rozhdestvensky, V. Gergiev, Y. Temirkanov, M. Jansons, S. Bychkov, V. Fedoseev , S. Sondeckis, V. Zawallish, K. Mazur, L. Gardelli, V. Neumann and others. Participates in the most significant festivals in Russia, Salzburg, Vienna, Istanbul, Athens, Helsinki, Boston, Bregenz, Prague, Mallorca, Spoletto, Provence.
From 1984 to 1989, S. Stadler taught at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, gave master classes in Norway, Poland, Finland, Portugal, and Singapore. He is the organizer of the festival “Paganini’s Violin in the Hermitage”, was the chief conductor of the Opera and Ballet Theater of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov.
Thanks to his unique memory, S. Stadler has an extensive musical repertoire. In conducting activities, he gives priority to major symphonic works and opera. For the first time in Russia, under the direction of S. Stadler, Messiaen’s “Turangalila” symphony, the operas “Trojans” by Berlioz and “Peter the Great” by Gretry, Bernstein’s ballet “Dybbuk” were performed.
Sergei Stadler has recorded over 30 CDs. He played the violin of the great Paganini in open concerts. Concerts on a 1782 Guadanini violin.
From 2009 to 2011 Sergei Stadler was the rector of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov.
