Rustam Komachkov
Rustam Komachkov was born in 1969 into a family of musicians. His father, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, holder of the Order of Honor, for many years was the concertmaster of the double bass group of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the USSR and Russia. From the age of seven, Rustam began to study the cello at the Gnessin Music School. In 1984 he entered the Musical College. Gnesins in the class of Professor A. Benditsky. He continued his education at the Moscow Conservatory and postgraduate studies, where he studied with professors V. Feigin and A. Melnikov; since 1993 he also improved under the guidance of A. Knyazev.
The cellist won a number of prestigious competitions: the All-Russian Competition of Chamber Ensembles (1987), the International Competitions of Chamber Ensembles in Vercelli (1992), in Trapani (1993, 1995, 1998), in Caltanisetta (1997) and the All-Russian Competition of Cellists in Voronezh (1997) .
Rustam Komachkov is rightfully considered one of the most gifted cellists of his generation. A brilliant virtuoso with artistry and excellent sound, he has a successful career as a soloist and ensemble player. Here are just some of the critics’ comments about his playing: “The most beautiful sound of his cello can be compared in terms of power even with some organ registers” (Entrevista, Argentina); “Artistry, musicality, a very beautiful, full sound, temperament – it captures” (“Truth”), “Rustam Komachkov captured the audience with his passion, will and conviction” (“Culture”).
The artist performed in the best halls of the capital: the Big, Small and Rachmaninov halls of the Moscow Conservatory, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, the Moscow International House of Music. The artist’s extensive geography of performances includes cities in Russia and neighboring countries, as well as Germany, France, Holland, Italy, Yugoslavia, South Korea, and Argentina.
R. Komachkov constantly collaborates with well-known domestic and foreign orchestras. Among them are the Moscow Camerata Chamber Orchestra (conductor I.Frolov), the Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra (conductor V.Bulakhov), the Voronezh Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra (conductor V.Verbitsky), the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra (conductor I.Raevsky), Bahia Blanca City Orchestra (Argentina, conductor H. Ulla), Baku Philharmonic Orchestra (conductor R. Abdulaev).
Being an excellent chamber performer, R. Komachkov performs in an ensemble with such musicians as pianists V. Vartanyan, M. Voskresensky, A. Lyubimov, I. Khudoley, violinists Y. Igonina, G. Murzha, A. Trostyansky, cellists K. Rodin , A. Rudin, cellist and organist A. Knyazev, flutist O. Ivusheykova and many others. From 1995 to 1998 he worked as a member of the State Tchaikovsky Quartet.
R. Komachkov’s repertoire includes 16 cello concertos, chamber and virtuoso solo compositions, works by composers of the XNUMXth century, as well as virtuoso pieces for violin arranged for cello.
The musician’s discography includes 6 albums recorded for Melodiya, Classical Records, SMS by Sonic-Solution and Bohemia Music. In addition, he has radio recordings in Estonia and Argentina. Recently R.Komachkov’s solo disc “Violin masterpieces on the cello” was released, which contains works by Bach, Sarasate, Brahms and Paganini.
