Roberto Scandyuzzi (Scandiuzzi) is one of the outstanding basses of the Italian opera school. Performing since 1981. In 1982 he made his debut at La Scala as Bartolo. He sang at the Grand Opera (since 1983), Turin (1984). In 1985 he performed at Covent Garden as Raymond in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. In 1989-92, he sang at the Arena di Verona festival as Timur in Puccini’s Turandot and Zacharias in Verdi’s Nabucco. He sang in the Baths of Caracalla (Rome) the part of Ramfis in Verdi’s Aida (1992).

Since 1995, Scandyuzzi has been performing at the Metropolitan Opera. He made his debut as Fiesco in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. In 1996, he performed here the part of Father Guarlian in Verdi’s The Force of Destiny. He sang the part of Philip II from Verdi’s Don Carlos at Covent Garden.

Recordings include Fiesco (conductor Solti, Decca), Collen in La bohème (conductor Nagano, Errato).

Today, Roberto Scandyuzzi performs at such prestigious audiences as the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Paris National Opera, London’s Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian Opera in Munich, and the San Francisco Opera House. He is invited to collaborate with outstanding conductors: Claudio Abbado, Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, Christoph Eschenbach, Daniele Gatti, James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Lorin Mazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Marcello Viotti, under under whose leadership the singer performs with such famous orchestras as the London Symphony, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Orchester National de Paris, the symphony orchestras of San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, the State Chapel of Dresden, the Vienna, Berlin and Munich Philharmonic Orchestras, the orchestra of the festival ” Florentine Musical May”, the Orchestra of the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala.

Over the past three seasons, Roberto Scandiuzzi has performed the title roles in Massenet’s Don Quixote in Tokyo and Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov at the Royal Theater in Madrid, participated in the opera performances of La Sonnambula in Santander, The Force of Destiny at the Florentine Musical May”, “Four Rude Men” at the Capitol Theater of Toulouse, “Nabucco” at the Arena di Verona, “Puritans”, “Macbeth” and “Norma” at the Bavarian State Opera, in Verdi’s Requiem at the Zurich Opera and in Tokyo, “Khovanshchina” in Amsterdam, “Simon Boccanegra” at the Zurich Opera House, “The Barber of Seville” in Dresden, “Don Pasquale” at the Turin Theater. His performances in the operas “Aida” and “The Barber of Seville” on the stage of the New York Metropolitan Opera were a great success.

The singer plans to perform at the Massimo Theater in Palermo, Milan’s La Scala, in Lyon, Toronto, Tel Aviv, the Erfurt Theater, the Vienna, Berlin and Bavarian operas, a tour of Japan, and participation in the Florentine Musical May festival.
