1) Rapid repetition of the same sound, ch. arr. on keyboard instruments.
2) The function allowed by the construction. speed of sound repetition. In 1821 the French master S. Erar invented FP. mechanics, which made it possible to repeat sound more quickly than all previous designs. Rus. name such tools – fp. with double rehearsal (see Piano mechanics).
