Debut in the late 80s. In 1889 he performed in Trieste. In 1892, illness prevented him from performing at the world premiere of The Pagliacci. Tonio’s part became one of the best in his career. The singer sang it at the English premiere at Covent Garden (1893, with De Lucia and Melba). In 1893-97 he performed at the Metropolitan (debut as David in the American premiere of Mascagni’s Friend Fritz). Other parts include Valentin in Faust, William Tell, Amonasro, Wolfram in Tannhäuser. Toured in South America, USA, Russia.
