Lisa Della Casa
At the age of 15, she studied singing in Zurich with M. Heather. In 1943 she sang the part of Annina (Der Rosenkavalier) on the stage of the Stadt Theater in Zurich. After performing at the Salzburg Festival as Zdenka (R. Strauss’s Arabella), in 1947 she was invited to the Vienna State Opera. Since 1953 she has been a soloist with the Metropolitan Opera (New York).
Parts: Pamina, Countess, Donna Anna and Donna Elvira, Fiordiligi (The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Mozart’s That’s All Women Do), Eva (The Nuremberg Mastersingers), Marcellina (Fidelio “Beethoven), Ariadne (“Ariadne auf Naxos” by R. Strauss), etc.
Performance by Della Casa of the parts: Princess Werdenberg (“The Knight of the Roses”), Salome, Arabella; Chrysotemis (“Electra”) brought the singer fame as an outstanding interpreter of R. Strauss’s operatic works. Della Casa’s repertoire also includes his “Last Four Songs” (with orchestra). She has performed at festivals in Glyndebourne, Edinburgh and Bayreuth, at the Grand Opera (Paris), La Scala (Milan), Colon (Buenos Aires), Covent Garden (London) and others.
Della Casa promoted the works of contemporary Swiss composers O. Schök, V. Burkhard, and others. She performed as a concert singer. Toured in Western Europe, North. and Yuzh. America, Australia and Japan.
