Lillian Nordica
After performances in a number of American opera companies, she began her career in Europe, where she made her debut in 1879 (Milan, the part of Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni). In 1880 Nordica toured in St. Petersburg (parts of Filin in Mignon, Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, etc.). She performed with brilliance in 1882 at the Grand Opera (the part of Marguerite). She performed at Covent Garden (1887-93). In 1893 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Valentine in Meyerbeer’s Les Huguenots. Was the 1st Amer. singer – participant of the Bayreuth Festival (1894, Elsa’s part in Lohengrin). She sang other Wagner parts (Brünnhilde in Valkyrie, Isolde) in New York, London. She performed until 1913. Among the parties are also Donna Anna, Aida, the title roles in La Gioconda by Ponchielli, Lucia di Lammermoor, and others.
