Debut 1967 (Spoleto, part of Figaro). Then for a number of years he sang in the choir of La Scala. In 1976 he performed the part of Figaro here and had great success, after which he gained worldwide fame. Since 1978 in Covent Garden (debut as Miller in Louise Miller). Since 1980 at the Metropolitan Opera (parts of Renato in Un ballo in maschera, Eugene Onegin, Amonasro, Rigoletto, etc.). He performed on the leading stages of the world. He sang at the Salzburg Festival in 1989-90 (part of Renato). In 1991 he performed the part of Iago in a concert performance in New York, in 1994 in Covent Garden he performed the part of Germont in a production that was a huge success (conductor Solti, soloists Georgiou, Lopardo). Among the recordings of the party are Renato (dir. Karajan, Deutsche Grammophon), Germont (dir. Solti, Decca) and others.
