Lauritz melchior
Debut 1913 (Copenhagen, baritone part of Silvio in Pagliacci). As a tenor, he first performed in 1918 (Tannhäuser). Until 1921 he sang in Copenhagen. In 1924, with great success, he performed the role of Sigmund in the Valkyrie at Covent Garden, and from 1926 at the Metropolitan Opera (his debut as Tannhäuser). Melchior gained fame as a remarkable interpreter of Wagner. From 1924 he regularly sang at the Bayreuth Festival. He performed the part of Tristan more than 200 times. Other parties include Lohengrin, Parsifal, Siegfried, Canio, Othello. Melchior’s partner was often Flagstad. He left the stage in 1950. From 1947 he acted in films. Performed in musicals. Among the recordings are the parts of Sigmund (conductor Walter, Danacord), Tristan (conductor F. Reiner, Video Artists International).
