Ileana Cotrubas
She made her debut in 1964 (Bucharest, part of Siebel in Faust). Since 1968 she sang in Frankfurt am Main, in 1971-74 at the Vienna Opera. In 1971 she made her debut at Covent Garden (as Tatiana). She performed with great success for a number of years at the Glyndebourne Festival (1969, as Mélisande in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande; 1970, in the title role in the first modern production of Cavalli’s Callisto).
In 1974, Cotrubas had an outstanding success at La Scala (the part of Mimi, she also sang the part of Violetta with success, etc.). In 1989 she performed the part of Mélisande at the Florentine Musical May festival. Among the parties are also Susanna, Gilda, Manon, Pamina, Michaela. Recordings include the title role in “Louise” by G. Charpentier (conductor Prétre, Sony), Mimi’s part (video, conductor Gardelli, Castle Vision).
