Francesca Caccini
Italian composer, singer, harpsichordist, teacher. Born in 1587. Daughter of Giulio Caccini (c. 1550-1618), a well-known composer, singer, teacher, member of the Florentine Camerata and creator of one of the first operas (“Eurydice” – to the same text by O. Rinuccini as the opera by J. Peri, 1602), who served at the Florentine court from 1564.
She gave concerts in many countries, performed in court performances, taught singing. Like Jacopo Peri, she wrote music for court musical and dance performances – ballets, interludes, maskerats. Among them are The Ballet of the Gypsies (1615), The Fair (based on a text by Michelangelo Buonarroti, 1619), The Liberation of Ruggiero from the Island of Alchiny (1625) and others. The approximate date of death is about 1640.
