ital. concertino, lit. – small concert
1) Composition for a soloist with orchestra accompaniment, intended for concert performance. It differs from the concerto in a smaller scale (due to the brevity of each of the parts of the cycle; a one-part concertino is similar to a concert piece) or the use of a small orchestra, for example. string. Sometimes the name “concertino” is also given to works in which there is no single solo part (Concertino for string quartet by I. F. Stravinsky, 1920).
2) A group of solo (concert) instruments in Concerto grosso and concert symphony.
