From 1934 he sang in Cluj. He made his debut in 1936 at the Vienna Opera (the part of Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni). In 1937, his performance of Lensky’s part enjoyed great success. During 1936-38 he performed at the Salzburg Festival with Toscanini and Furtwängler. After the 2nd World War, Dermot toured with great success in many countries of the world. Since 1947 in Covent Garden. In 1948 he sang at La Scala (Don Ottavio). In 1953, at the Grand Opera, he sang the part of Tamino with great success. He performed the part of Florestan in Fidelio at the opening of the restored Vienna Opera (1955). One of the best performers of Mozart’s parts of his time. Of the other roles, we note David in The Nuremberg Mastersingers, Alfred, Palestrina in Pfitzner’s opera of the same name. Recordings include Don Ottavio (1954, video, Salzburg Festival, conductor Furtwängler, Deutsche Grammophon), David (conductor Knappertsbusch, Decca).
