Lyudmylin, Anatoly
People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1958). Laureate of two Stalin Prizes of the second degree (1947, 1951). Lyudmilin’s creative activity began shortly after the October Revolution, when he became an artist in the orchestra of the Opera Theater in Kyiv. At the same time, the young musician studied at the conservatory, and mastered the art of conducting under the guidance of L. Steinberg and A. Pazovsky. Since 1924, Lyudmilin worked in musical theaters in Kyiv, Rostov-on-Don, Kharkov, Baku. He worked most fruitfully as the chief conductor of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater (1944-1955), the Sverdlovsk Opera and Ballet Theater (1955-1960) and the Voronezh Musical Theater (from 1962 until the end of his life). Lyudmilin staged many different performances on these stages. And always the conductor paid close attention to the Soviet opera. His repertoire included works by T. Khrennikov, I. Dzerzhinsky, O. Chishko, A. Spadavecchia, V. Trambitsky. For staging the operas “Sevastopol” by M. Koval (1946) and “Ivan Bolotnikov” by L. Stepanov (1950), he was awarded the State Prizes of the USSR.
