Alexey Kurbatov
Alexei Kurbatov is a Russian composer, pianist and teacher.
Graduated from the Moscow State P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory (piano classes of Associate Professor Yu. R. Lisichenko and Professor M. S. Voskresensky). He studied composition with T. Khrennikov, T. Chudova and E. Teregulov.
As a pianist, he gave concerts in more than 60 cities of Russia, as well as in Australia, Austria, Armenia, Belarus, Belgium, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Latvia, Portugal, USA, France, Croatia, Ukraine . He has played with many orchestras in the best halls in Russia and abroad. He took an active part in the cultural programs of the foundations of V. Spivakov, M. Rostropovich, “Russian Performing Arts” and others, performed in concerts with such famous artists as Vladimir Spivakov, Misha Maisky, Maxim Vengerov, Vadim Repin, Gerard Depardieu.
Aleksey Kurbatov’s speeches were broadcast on radio and television in many countries, he recorded several CDs.
Alexei Kurbatov created his first work at the age of 5, and at the age of 6 he already wrote a ballet. Today Kurbatov’s music sounds in the best halls of Russia, Austria, Belarus, Germany, Kazakhstan, China, USA, Ukraine, Sweden, Japan. Many artists include his music in their CD programs. Alexei Kurbatov created 6 symphonies, the opera “The Black Monk”, 7 instrumental concertos, more than ten symphonic poems, many chamber and vocal compositions, music for films and performances. Many Russian and foreign musicians collaborate with Alexei Kurbatov: conductors Yuri Bashmet, Alexei Bogorad, Alan Buribaev, Ilya Gaisin, Damian Iorio, Anatoly Levin, Vag Papian, Andris Poga, Igor Ponomarenko, Vladimir Ponkin, Alexander Rudin, Sergei Skripka, Yuri Tkachenko, Valentin Uryupin, pianists Alexei Volodin, Alexander Gindin, Petr Laul, Konstantin Lifshitz, Rem Urasin, Vadim Kholodenko, violinists Nadezhda Artamonova, Alena Baeva, Gaik Kazazyan, Roman Mints, Count Murzha, violists Sergei Poltavsky and Irina Sopova, cellists Boris Andrianov, Claudio Bohorkes, Alexander Buzlov, Evgeny Rumyantsev, Sergey Suvorov, Denis Shapovalov and others. In 2010-2011, Alexei Kurbatov collaborated with the famous Greek composer Vangelis. In 2013, the musical “Count Orlov”, staged at the Moscow Operetta Theater, orchestrated by A. Kurbatov, received the prestigious “Crystal Turandot” award.
Distinguished by the originality and individuality of the language, the works of A. Kurbatov continue the best traditions of world symphonic and chamber instrumental music. At the same time, his work organically fits into the context of Russian culture and history: he created such works as the symphonic poem “1812” (on the 200th anniversary of the war of 1812), the poem for the reader and the trio “Leningrad Apocalypse” (commissioned by the writer’s widow Daniil Andreev) and the Third (“Military”) Symphony, which premiered in St. Petersburg on September 8, 2012 on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Siege of Leningrad.
Alexey Kurbatov conducts master classes in many cities of Russia, participated in the work of the jury of a number of competitions. He was the music editor of the opening ceremony of the XXVII World Summer Universiade in Kazan (2013).
