Alexey Markov was born in 1977 in Vyborg. He graduated from the Vyborg Aviation Technical School and Music School, guitar class, played the trumpet in the orchestra, sang in the church choir. He began to study singing professionally at the age of 24 at the Academy of Young Singers of the Mariinsky Theater under Georgy Zastavny, a former soloist of the Kirov Theatre.
While studying at the Academy, Alexei Markov repeatedly became a laureate of prestigious vocal competitions in Russia and abroad: the VI International Competition for Young Opera Singers named after N.A. Also last season, Alexei Markov performed the part of Chorebus (The Trojans) at the Edinburgh International Festival and at the International Music Festival at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden as part of the Mariinsky Theater’s foreign tour conducted by Valery Gergiev. During the same tour, he sang the part of Prince Yeletsky in a new production of the opera The Queen of Spades.
In January 2015, Deutsche Grammophon released a recording of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanthe with the participation of Alexei Markov (conductor Emmanuel Vuillaume).
In March 2015, Alexei Markov with the Chamber Choir of the Smolny Cathedral under the direction of Vladimir Begletsov presented the program “Russian Concert” of works of Russian sacred music and folk songs on the stage of the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre.
