If any of you think that to start learning to play an instrument you need a lot of money, talent and time, then you are wrong. Because of these three elements, time for learning will definitely be needed, and talent only indicated. In the case of the harmonica, a lot of money is not required and this instrument has gained its enormous popularity due to the fact that it was inexpensive. We will not tell you about the history and fate of this instrument here, because you can read it on Wikipedia. We will tell ourselves, however, about the extraordinary qualities of this unique instrument.
The qualities of the harmonica
Very often, one of the basic factors that make us give up our musical dreams are finances. Usually, we think musical instruments are very expensive. Additionally, we are often not sure if we will manage and face the musical challenge. Most of us don’t smile too much to spend money and in a week or two to find out that we couldn’t manage it and quit. This is understandable, of course, because that is human nature. However, when it comes to the challenge, until you try it, you will not be able to see how it works out. When it comes to expenses, you shouldn’t worry too much about finances, because there is an amazing-sounding instrument in this world that we can buy for really little money.
This instrument is of course the harmonica. It is not only relatively inexpensive, but also relatively small. All this means that it belongs to the group of musical instruments that we can always have with us, for example, on a trip, on a trip or at a camping. So for little money, literally for a few dozen zlotys, we can buy a real musical instrument that will fit in our pocket, but that’s not all. Because what distinguishes the harmonica the most among many instruments is its unique, very original sound. Many people are delighted with the sound of, for example, an accordion, but this instrument is much larger and much more expensive. And imagine if the harmonica sounds very similar. This is due to the fact that, like the accordion, it is a wind instrument, with the difference that, with the help of a bellows, we pump air into the loudspeakers and reeds, and here this work is performed by our lungs. Despite the considerable difference in dimensions between the accordion and the harmonica, these instruments also have some common structural elements. Both the accordion and the harmonica have reeds which, when stimulated by the air, vibrate and thus produce a specific sound. We can play the harmonica with both single notes and whole chords. It is played by blowing or sucking air in a specific channel. In a given channel, a different sound is obtained on the inhalation and a different sound on the exhalation. Of course, there are at least a dozen or so harmonica playing techniques, and the type of harmonica is also important. This instrument is found in many musical genres, and such main trends include blues, country, or widely understood folk music. It can be an independent solo instrument or accompanying vocal, as well as it can be a complement to a larger musical composition, both acoustic and electric.
The basic division of the harmonica
As with most musical instruments, there are specific types of harmonica. The basic division that can be used in this group of instruments are: diatonic and chromatic harmonica. For people who are not very familiar with this terminology: diatonic, chromatic, I will suggest that a diatonic harmonica can be compared, for example, to a piano with only white keys, and a chromatic one with white and black keys, i.e. with all those raised and lowered sounds. Therefore, it is not difficult to guess that a diatonic harmonica is easier to use and that is why it is best to start learning with it. Of course, there are a few more divisions among harmonica, among others due to the key.
Summation
