Debut 1944 (Trenton, party Amonasro). From 1945 he sang at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Germont), he participated in 772 performances here until 1975. He also sang with success on the stages of Europe in the 60s (La Scala, Covent Garden). He performed the parts of Germont, Renato in Un ballo in maschera in the famous radio shows conducted by A. Toscanini (recorded in 1946 and 1954 on RCA Victor). In 1970-74 he performed on Broadway in the famous musical Fiddler on the Roof more than 500 times. He acted in films. Among the recordings of the part of Barnabas in La Gioconda by Ponchielli (conductor Gardelli, Decca), Figaro (conductor Leinsdorf, RCA Victor).
