Robert Gambill
Debut 1977 (Geneva). From 1981 he sang in Wiesbaden (parts of Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Tamino). In 1981 he made his debut at La Scala (the world premiere of “Thursday” from the 7-part cycle “Light” by Stockhausen). He performed at the Glyndebourne Festival in 1982 (Almaviva), 1984 (Don Ramiro in Rossini’s Cinderella) and others. Ferrando in the opera “That’s what everyone does”). In 1989 he sang the part of David in Wagner’s Die Meistersingers at Nuremberg in Covent Garden. He performed at the Salzburg Festival in 1990-1995 (in Berg’s Lulu, in the title role in Weber’s Oberon). Other parts include Lindor in The Italian Girl in Algiers, Belmont in Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio, and Fenton in Falstaff. He recorded a number of roles in the operas Manon Lescaut (Edmond), Abduction from the Seraglio (Pedrillo), Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann (Andreas) and others.
