Maria Slavina
Soloist of the Mariinsky Theater in 1879-1917 (debut as Amneris). The first performer of the roles of Ganna in Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night (1880), the Princess in Tchaikovsky’s The Enchantress (1887), the Countess in The Queen of Spades (1890), Clytemnestra in Taneyev’s Oresteia (1895). The first performer on the Russian stage of the roles of Carmen (1885), Frikki in Valkyrie (1900), Clytemnestra in Elektra (1913), etc. Among the best parts is also Olga in Eugene Onegin (the first performer in St. Petersburg, 1884), Lel, Siebel in Faust, Fidesz in Meyerbeer’s The Prophet. Slavina is one of the largest Russian singers of the late 19th century. In 1919-20 she taught in St. Petersburg. Emigrated in the 20s.
