June Anderson

Debut 1978 (New York, part of the Queen of the Night). In 1982 she made her debut in Europe (Rome, part of Semiramide in Rossini’s opera of the same name), since 1985 at La Scala (debut as Amina in La sonnambula). In the same year, at the Grand Opera, she performed the part of Isabella in Meyerbeer’s Robert the Devil. She performed with great success in 1987 on the stage of the Vienna Opera (part of Lucia). In the same year she made her debut at Covent Garden in Semiramide. Since 1989 at the Metropolitan (debut as Gilda). In 1992 she sang the role of Helene in Rossini’s Maid of the Lake at La Scala. She sang the part of Mary in Donizetti’s Daughter of the Regiment (1995, Metropolitan). In 1996 she performed at Covent Garden (the title role in Verdi’s Joan of Arc). We should also note Anderson’s recordings in the rarely performed operas Halévy’s Jewess (part of Eudoxia, dir. A. de Almeida, Philips), Bizet’s The Beauty of Perth (part of Katerina, dir. Prétre, EMI).
