Brother E. Reshke. Debut 1874 (Venice, part of Alphonse in The Favorite). Until 1876 he performed as a baritone. Tenor debut 1879 (Madrid, title role in Meyerbeer’s Robert the Devil). With great success, he performed the role of John the Prophet at the French premiere of Massenet’s Herodias (1884). He sang the title role in the world premiere of Massenet’s The Sid (1885, Grand Opera). Member of the 1st stage production of “The Condemnation of Faust” by Berlioz (1893, Monte Carlo). He performed in St. Petersburg with his brother in 1890/91 and 1897/98. From 1891 he sang for 11 seasons at the Metropolitan Opera (debut in the title role in Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet). In 1895 he had a huge success here in the party of Tristan. Reschke is one of the outstanding singers of the late 19th century, a brilliant performer of Wagnerian roles. Among the parties are Lohengrin, Siegfried in Der Ring des Nibelungen, Raoul in Meyerbeer’s Huguenots, José, Faust, Othello. Left the stage in 1905.
