From 1969 he performed in Mexico City in concerts. European debut 1974 (Karlsruhe). In 1975 Spanish. in Zurich, the part of Ferrando in “That’s what everyone does.” Performed in 1978 at the Bayreuth Festival (helmsman in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman). Repeatedly successfully performed (since 1981) at the Salzburg Festival (Fenton in Falstaff, Don Ramiro in Rossini’s Cinderella, the title role in Mozart’s Mercy of Titus). Since 1984 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Belmont in Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio). Use ibid Tamino at the festival dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the death of Mozart (1991, dir. Levine). Use Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni (1987, La Scala), The Duke (1993, Covent Garden), in 1995 performed in Bonn (Florestan in Fidelio). Recordings include Tamino (dir. Karajan, Deutsche Grammophon), Almaviva (dir. Marriner, Philips).
