Conductor Antonino Fogliani is a native of Messina (Italy). He graduated from the Bologna Conservatory, and then improved in conducting at the Milan Conservatory. G. Verdi at Vittorio Parisi, as well as in Chigiana Academy in Siena with Francesco Donatoni and Gianluigi Gelmetti, with whom he subsequently worked as an assistant conductor in Italy and abroad (Rome Opera, Venetian Theater The Phoenix, Turin Theatre Royal, Royal Opera House of London Covent Garden).
An important debut, which served as a starting point in the career of a conductor, was his performance at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro in 2001, where he successfully conducted Rossini’s opera Le Journey to Reims. Engagements that followed this debut included performances at the Rome Opera (Donizetti’s Don Pasquale), a Neapolitan theater San Carlo (“The Turk in Italy” by Rossini and “Rigoletto” by Verdi), Donizetti Theater in Bergamo (“Hugo, Count of Paris” by Donizetti), a Parisian comical opera (Rossini’s Count Ori), the Walloon Opera in Liege (Verdi’s Rigoletto, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Mozart’s So Everybody Do It), the Rossini at Vilbade Festival (Cyrus in Babylon and Chance Makes a Thief ”) and at the Wexford Opera Festival (“Maria di Rogan” by Donizetti).
Antonino Fogliani works regularly with the leading Italian orchestras: the Accademia Orchestra Santa Cecilia in Rome, the orchestras of the Rome Opera, the Bolognese Municipal Theatre, Neapolitan theater San Carlo, Arturo Toscanini Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra Teatro Bellini in Catania, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Milan Theater La Scala, as well as with the Orchestra of the Mozart Festival in A Coruña, the orchestras of Tenerife, Castile and León in Spain, the Municipal Theater of Santiago in Chile, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Australia, Orchestral Ensemble of Paris in France.
Among the most important performances of the conductor of the last two years is the debut in the Milan theater La Scala (“Mary Stuart” by Donizetti; released on DVD), performances at the Rome Opera (“Moses in Egypt” by Rossini and “Lucia di Lammermoor” by Donizetti), the Opera House of St. Gallen (“Joan of Arc” by Verdi), at the festival “ Rossini in Vilbada (Rossini’s Otello), at the Novaya Opera in Moscow (Verdi’s Rigoletto), Opera House in Cagliari (“Love Potion” by Donizetti), in Calderon Theater in Valladolid (Rossini’s Cinderella). The conductor’s upcoming engagements include debuts at the Monte Carlo Opera (Puccini’s La Boheme) and the Houston Opera Grand Opera (“Lucia di Lammermoor” by Donizetti). Antonino Fogliani has recorded Donizetti’s Hugo, Comte de Paris for the Dynamic label, Cyrus in Babylon and Rossini’s Chance Makes a Thief for Naxos.
