Alessandro Bonci
In 1896 he graduated from the Musical Lyceum in Pesaro, where he studied with C. Pedrotti and F. Cohen. Later he studied at the Paris Conservatory. In 1896 he made his debut with great success at the Teatro Regio in Parma (Fenton – Verdi’s Falstaff). From the same year, Bonci performed at the leading opera houses in Italy, including at La Scala (Milan), and then abroad. Has toured to Russia, Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, South America, Australia, USA (was a soloist with the Manhattan Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York). In 1927 he left the stage and was engaged in teaching activities.
Bonci was an outstanding representative of the art of bel canto. His voice was distinguished by plasticity, softness, transparency, tenderness of sound. Among the best roles: Arthur, Elvino (“Puritanes”, “La sonnambula” by Bellini), Nemorino, Fernando, Ernesto, Edgar (“Love Potion”, “Favorite”, “Don Pasquale”, “Lucia di Lammermoor” by Donizetti). Among other musical stage images: Don Ottavio (“Don Giovanni”), Almaviva (“The Barber of Seville”), Duke, Alfred (“Rigoletto”, “La Traviata”), Faust. He was popular as a concert singer (participated in the performance of Verdi’s Requiem and others).
