He wrote about 60 operas, of which the most famous are The Apotheosis of Hercules (1819, Naples), Elisa and Claudio (1821, Milan), The Oath (1837, Milan), Two Famous Rivals (1838, Venice), “Horaces and Curiatii” (1846, Naples). One of the leading representatives of Italian art of the first half of the 19th century. A number of his works are still heard from the stage. The most popular opera is The Oath. Nowadays it has been staged in Naples (1955), Berlin (1974), Vienna (1979) and others.
