Peter Josef von Lindpaintner
German conductor and composer. He studied with G. A. Plödterl in Augsburg and P. Winter in Munich. In 1812-19 he was a conductor at the Isartor Theater (Munich). From 1819 court bandmaster in Stuttgart. Under his leadership, the Stuttgart Orchestra became one of the leading symphony ensembles in Germany. Lindpaintner also led the Lower Rhine Musical Festivals (1851), conducted concerts of the London Philharmonic Society (1852).
Lindpaintner’s numerous musical compositions are predominantly imitative in nature. His songs are of artistic value.

operas, including The Mountain King (Der Bergkönig, 1825, Stuttgart), Vampire (1828, ibid.), The Power of Song (Die Macht des Liedes, 1836, ibid.), Sicilian Vespers (1843, Die sicilianische Vesper), Liechtenstein (1846, ibid.); ballets; oratorios and cantatas; for orchestra – symphonies, overtures; concerts with orchestra for piano, for clarinet; chamber ensembles; near 50 songs; church music; music for drama theater performances, including Goethe’s Faust.
