Lamberto Gardelli
He began his creative activity in Rome (1944, “La Traviata”). In 1946-55 he worked at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. He also conducted in Budapest and Berlin. Since 1964 he has performed regularly at the Glyndebourne Festival (Macbeth, Anna Boleyn by Donizetti). Since 1966 at the Metropolitan Opera (André Chenier), since 1969 at Covent Garden (debut in Othello). Since 1970 chief conductor of the Bern Opera, since 1975 at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen. Since 1980 he has led the Bavarian Radio Orchestra.
Recorded a number of operas. Among them are Giordano’s Fedora (soloists Olivero, Del Monaco, Gobbi, Decca), William Tell (soloists Baquier, Caballe, Gedda and others, EMI), and others. Author of several operatic and other works.
