Alexander Griboyedov (Aleksandr Griboyedov) |

Russian playwright, poet, diplomat and musician. He received a versatile, including musical, education. He played the piano, organ and flute. According to some reports, he studied with J. Field (piano) and I. Miller (music theory).

M. I. Glinka called Griboyedov “a very good musician.” Musical evenings in the Griboyedovs’ house were attended by V. F. Odoevsky, A. A. Alyabyev, M. Yu. Vielgorsky, A. N. Verstovsky.

Of the musical works of Griboedov, 2 waltzes (e-moll, As-dur) have been preserved. A. N. Verstovsky wrote music for the play by Griboedov and P. A. Vyazemsky “Who is brother, who is sister, or Deception after deception” (opera vaudeville, staged in 1824, Moscow and St. Petersburg).
