Zelma Kurz (Selma Kurz) |

Austrian singer (soprano). She made her debut in 1895 (Hamburg, the title role in Tom’s opera Mignon). Since 1896 in Frankfurt. In 1899, at the invitation of Mahler, she became a soloist at the Vienna Opera, where she performed until 1926. Among the parties are Tosca, Sieglinde in The Valkyrie, Eve in The Nuremberg Mastersingers, Elizabeth in Tannhäuser, etc. In 1904-07 she sang at Covent Garden, where Caruso was her partner in Rigoletto (Gilda’s part). In 1916 she sang with brilliance the part of Zerbinetta at the Vienna premiere of a new edition of R. Strauss’ opera Ariadne auf Naxos. In 1922 she performed the part of Constanza in Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio at the Salzburg Festival.
