Waltz on the guitar. general information

Any guitarist at least once tried to play the waltz on the guitar. Classical musicians regularly practice on the works of great composers. Variety performers sometimes do not even notice that their favorite song, performed more than a dozen times, is also written in this genre. To better understand the specifics, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the features of this style. A large number of tablature and notes are given as examples.

Briefly about the technique of execution

The emphasis is on the first beat. If we take those same “one-two-three”, then it is “ONE” that stands out. It should sound a little stronger than the rest of the beat. Most often, this role is played by the bass, the line of which should be disassembled in advance. In most cases, these are reference sounds of chords of simple functions (tonic, 3rd and 5th). In more complex waltzes, a fourth, seventh step is added. Also, basses are mainly played using the apoyando technique – after the sound is extracted, the pad rests on the underlying string.

Characteristic features of the waltz

Initially, the waltz was a dance for secular salons. Exquisite ladies in magnificent dresses gathered in the palaces in the evenings to enjoy the magical music and move to the beat. Gradually spread to the people. It could even be seen in city squares. Austria is considered the homeland. The main distribution was received in Germany, France, and from there already around the world. “Walzen” (German for “roll”) – hence one of the characteristic features – smoothness. Folk dances were rough and bouncing. Waltz on the guitar is famous for its elegance.

The most important thing that distinguishes it is the tripartite size. The numerator of the fraction is a three, and the denominator is a multiple of four (for example, ¾, 3/8 or 6/8). Most often, he is measured and unhurried. But many waltzes are also fast. Just in these, the size is prescribed with a “six” or “nine” in the numerator.

Lyricism and penetration are also distinctive features. The dance is always graceful with a beautiful melodic line. Often the line of the melody gradually develops and by the end of the phrase (verse, chorus) “soars” up.
