Ukrainian composer Vitaliy Dmitrievich Kireyko received his musical education at the Kyiv Conservatory in the composition class of L. Revutsky. His work is in all genres: operatic – “Forest Song” (based on the play by Lesya Ukrainka), vocal and symphonic – the poem “Mother”, “Song of the Filarets”; symphonies, overtures, quartets and piano pieces are permeated with typical intonations and rhythms of Ukrainian folk melodies.
In the ballet Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, Kireiko makes extensive use of the folklore materials of the Carpathian Ukrainians.
