Vazgen Vartanyan was born in Moscow, graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory, trained at Juilliard (New York, USA), where he was awarded the degree of Master of Fine Arts, receiving a full scholarship for studies. He studied with famous musicians – professors Lev Vlasenko, Dmitry Sakharov and Jerome Lowenthal.

Possessing an extensive repertoire, which includes many significant works of all eras, he performed various solo programs in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, as well as in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and other European countries. In addition, he gave master classes and gave concerts in Taranto (Italy) and Seoul (South Korea), where he was previously awarded the first prize and the Grand Prix at the Su Ri International Competition. As a soloist, Vartanyan has also been at the center of many concert projects at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Moscow International House of Music and other major halls in Russia. He also performed in famous halls in Europe, Asia and America, such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Conservatory. Verdi in Milan, Seoul Arts Center, etc.

Vazgen Vartanyan has collaborated with conductors Valery Gergiev, Mikhail Pletnev and Konstantin Orbelyan, with violist Yuri Bashmet, pianist Nikolai Petrov, and with the American composer Lucas Foss. He took part in famous festivals such as The Festival of the Hamptons and Benno Moiseevich Festival in the USA, the Easter Festival, the festival dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Aram Khachaturian, the festival to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Horowitz, “Palaces of St. Petersburg”, Rachmaninov’s mono-festival in the Svetlanov Hall of the MMDM, “The Musical Kremlin” in Russia, the “Pietro Longo” festival, the Pulsano festival (Italy) and many others.

The pianist participated in the Rachmaninov Festival in Tambov, where he performed the Russian premiere of Tarantella Rachmaninov from the two-piano suite in his own arrangement and orchestration for piano and orchestra with the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Pletnev.
