Debut 1980 (Milan, La Scala, in the opera “The Bronze Head” by C. Soliva). Until 1984, he sang only bass parts. In 1987, in Chicago, he performed the part of Mustafa in Rossini’s The Italian Girl in Algiers. In 1988 he performed it on the stage of Covent Garden. Since 1992 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Assur in Rossini’s Semiramide). In 1993 he sang the part of Basilio in Covent Garden. In 1996 he performed the part of Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera. Among the roles of Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore, Don Magnifico in Rossini’s Cinderella, the title role in the opera Don Pasquale and others. Recordings include the role of Selim in Rossini’s The Turk in Italy (conductor Marriner, Philips) and others.
