Debut 1949 (Milan, part of Geronimo in Cimarosa’s “Secret Marriage” op.). He was especially successful in buffoon roles. At the Glyndebourne Festival in tech. a number of years (1951-61) isp. the roles of Figaro, Dandini in Rossini’s Cinderella, Don Alphonse and Guglielmo in Leporello’s That’s What Everyone Does. He sang in the rarely performed intermezzo (for one singer) “Orchestra Conductor” by Cimarosa. He performed with success at Covent Garden (1974), at the Colon Theatre, etc. In 1981 he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera (Taddeo in The Italian Girl in Algiers). Performed until 1990. Recordings include Mozart and Rossini’s Figaro parts (conducted by Gui, Classics for Pleasure and EMI).
