She made her debut in 1942 (Brooklyn, part of Santuzza in Rural Honor). Since 1944 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Leonora in the Trovatore). In 1953 she sang the part of Sieglinde in the Valkyrie at the Bayreuth Festival. She has performed at the American premieres of a number of Britten’s operas.
From 1956 she sang mezzo-soprano parts (debut as Marina at the Metropolitan Opera). In 1958 she participated in the world premiere of Barber’s opera Vanessa (1958, part of the Old Countess). From 1957 she performed at Covent Garden (parts of Carmen, Marina, etc.). Since 1958 she also sang at the Vienna Opera. In 1960 she performed the role of Eboli in Don Carlos at the Salzburg Festival. One of the last performances was in 1982 (San Francisco, part of the Countess). Reznik’s repertoire also includes the parts of Donna Anna, Clytemnestra in Elektra, and others.
Since 1971 she has acted as a director (Hamburg, Venice). Recordings include Carmen (dir. Schippers), Ulrika in Un ballo in maschera (dir. Bartoletti, both Decca) and others.
