Moderate pace designation. Usually the term “moderato” is understood as an abbreviation of the words allegro moderato, that is, as a designation of a tempo that is intermediate between allegro and allegretto. In some cases, moderato is also considered as an independent tempo, slower than allegretto, but more mobile than andantino.
