He graduated from the conductor-choir department (1973, class of A. Niklusov) and the opera and symphony department (1977, class of I. Musin) of the Leningrad Conservatory. In 1977-78 he trained at the Higher Academy of Music in Vienna with K. Osterreich.

Since 1979 at the Maly Opera Theater he has conducted ballets: Gayane, Giselle, Sylphide, Evening of Ancient Choreography, Harlequinade, Halt of the Cavalry, Paquita, Petrograd Sparrows, Reflections, Eleventh Symphony”, “The Young Lady and the Hooligan”, “Coppelia”, “The Little Humpbacked Horse”, “Esmeralda”, “Vain Precaution”, “Hercules”, “Tsar Boris”, “Doctor Aibolit”.
